TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

– (ES) I have voted in favour of this important report because in doing so, we are supporting the Commission proposal on the extension of the transitional regime as regards rabies, meaning that the end of the regime coincides better with the period when the European Commission expects to terminate EU funding of vaccination programmes to eradicate sylvatic rabies in some Member States, which is the main rabies problem in the EU. In addition, the Commission has opted for a careful precautionary approach, giving priority to prevention and to additional health considerations related to the internal market and free movement of pets.
– (ES) Ik heb voor dit belangrijke verslag gestemd omdat we daarmee het Commissievoorstel tot verlenging van de overgangsregeling voor rabiës ondersteunen, wat inhoudt dat de einddatum van de voorgestelde verlenging beter overeenkomt met de termijn waarbinnen de Commissie in bepaalde lidstaten een einde verwacht te maken aan de EU-financiering van vaccinatieprogramma's tegen rabiës onder in het wild levende dieren, het voornaamste probleem met betrekking tot rabiës in de EU. The end of the proposed extension coincides better with the period when the European Commission expects to terminate EU funding of vaccination programmes to eradicate sylvatic rabies in some Member States, which is the main rabies problem in the EU.

Thus, while I have some sympathy for the fears of the Member States who consider that their pet population is more prone to certain diseases, and I understand that the proposed prolongation would be simultaneously completed with EU-funded vaccination programmes to eliminate sylvatic rabies in some Member States, I believe that this should be the last extension of the special treatment enjoyed by these countries.

(3) Over the past ten years the rabies situation has improved spectacularly throughout the Community following the implementation of programmes for the oral vaccination of foxes in regions affected by the sylvatic-rabies epidemic that has swept through north-eastern Europe since the 1960s.
