Actions proposed are the result of the work carried out by the Commission chaired Task-Force for the Mediterranean, with the aim to bolster EU's policies and tools in the short to medium term.

– having regard to the debates held, since the beginning of the current legislature, in the its Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs on 22 July 2014 on the implementation of the communication on the work of the Task Force Mediterranean; on 4 September on Frontex activities in the Mediterranean and on the Task Force Mediterranean; on 24 September on the Commission 5th annual report on immigration and asylum (2013) and on the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) annual report on the situation of asylum in the European Union (2013),
– gezien de debatten die sinds het begin van de huidige zittingsperiode zijn gehouden in de Commissie burgerlijke vrijheden, justitie en binnenlandse zaken, namelijk op 22 juli 2014 over de uitvoering van de mededeling over het werk van de Task Force Middellandse Zeegebied; op 4 september 2014 over de activiteiten van Frontex in de Middellandse Zee en over de Task Force Middellandse Zeegebied; en op 24 september 2014 over het vijfde jaarlijkse verslag van de Commissie over immigratie en asiel (2013) en over het jaarverslag van het Europees Ondersteuningsbureau voor asielzaken (EASO) over de situatie van asielzoekers in de Europese Unie (2013),

To help Member States prepare for potentially continued high pressure given the ongoing instability in some countries in the Mediterranean neighbourhood, the Commission is also stepping up its surveillance of the implementation of the recommendations of the Mediterranean Task Force and will report back to the March Home Affairs Council on progress made.
Voorts zal zij nauwer toezicht houden op de uitvoering van de aanbevelingen van de taskforce voor het Middellandse Zeegebied. Dat moet ervoor zorgen dat de lidstaten beter zijn voorbereid op de mogelijk aanhoudende druk als gevolg van de voortdurende instabiliteit in een aantal landen in het naburige Middellandse Zeegebied.

5. Welcomes the Commission’s intention to establish a task force on the issue of migratory flows in the Mediterranean; considers that this task force should comprise both a political and an operational element; insists, in this connection, that Parliament should be involved in such a task force at either a political or a technical level; insists also that the establishment of such a task force can be considered only to be a first step towards a more ambitious approach;
5. is verheugd over de intentie van de Commissie om een task force op te richten met betrekking tot de kwestie van migratiestromen in het Middellandse Zeegebied; is van mening dat deze task force zowel een politiek als een operationeel onderdeel zou moeten omvatten; benadrukt in dit verband dat het Parlement bij een dergelijke task force moet worden betrokken op ofwel politiek ofwel technisch niveau; benadrukt tevens dat de oprichting van deze task force slechts als een eerste stap in de richting van een ambitieuzere aanpak moet worden beschouwd;

4. Welcomes, in this context, the launch of the EU-Tunisia Task Force, the first task force established in conjunction with a southern Mediterranean country with a view to ensuring better coordination of EU and international support for the country's transition; welcomes the fact that Parliament was involved in the first meeting; asks the VP/HR and the Commission to continue to involve Parliament in this and future initiatives; welcomes the creation within Parliament of a monitoring group on the Southern Mediterranean to monitor the EU's response to the crises in the Mediterranean countries;
4. is in dit verband ingenomen met de oprichting van de Taskforce EU-Tunesië, de eerste gezamenlijk met een zuidelijk mediterraan land opgerichte taskforce die ten doel heeft de Europese en internationale steun voor de overgang van het land beter te coördineren; juicht toe dat het Parlement bij de eerste bijeenkomst werd betrokken; verzoekt de VV/HV en de Commissie het Parlement bij dit initiatief en bij toekomstige initiatieven te blijven betrekken; is ingenomen met de instelling binnen het Europees Parlement van een toezichtgroep voor het zuidelijke Middellandse Zeegebied om de EU-respons op de crises in de mediterrane landen te volgen;

The Council welcomes the setting up of the Task Force for the Southern Mediterranean by the High Representative which will enhance the EU´s efforts to foster coherent international support for the strengthening of democracy and inclusive economic development in the Mediterranean region.
De Raad verheugt zich erover dat er door de hoge vertegenwoordiger een taskforce voor de zuidelijke mediterrane landen is ingesteld die de inspanningen van de EU om samenhangende internationale steun te verkrijgen voor het versterken van de democratie en de inclusieve economische ontwikkeling in het Middellandse Zeegebied, zal ondersteunen.

In this connection, the Council also heard a statement by the Italian delegation on the next Presidency's intention of continuing the initiatives taken by the French and Spanish Presidencies on cooperation with Mediterranean third countries; - information provided by Commissioners BANGEMANN and CRESSON on the progress of work by the research-industry task forces and their contributions to the objectives of the policy pursued by the Union in the field of research and technological development; - the presentation by the Commission of the 1995 annual report on the Union's RTD activities, which gives an overview of all Community RTD activities and corresponding results in 1994 (third framework programme) and of the work programme for 1995 (fourth framework programme).
