In this context, special attention should be paid to the role of very short-lived substances, having regard, in particular, to the 2006 United Nations Environment Programme/World Meteorological Organisation (UNEP/WMO) ozone assessment, which concluded that the ozone-depleting potential of those substances is greater than previously assessed.
In die context dient bijzondere aandacht te worden geschonken aan de rol van stoffen met een zeer korte levensduur, met name de studie van het Milieuprogramma van de Verenigde Naties (UNEP) en de Wereld Meteorologische Organisatie (WMO) van 2006, waarin tot de conclusie wordt gekomen dat het ozonafbrekend vermogen van deze stoffen groter is dan tot nu toe werd aangenomen.

(2a) Many ozone depleting substances (ODS) are greenhouse gases but are not controlled under the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change and its Kyoto Protocol under the assumption that the Montreal Protocol would phase out ODS.

(2) The Member States have signed the Gothenburg Protocol of 1 December 1999 to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on long-range transboundary air pollution to abate acidification, eutrophication and ground-level ozone.
(2) Alle lidstaten hebben het op 1 december 1999 in Gothenburg overeengekomen Protocol ter bestrijding van verzuring van de Economische Commissie voor Europa van de Verenigde Naties, eutrofiëring en ozon op leefniveau bij het Verdrag betreffende grensoverschrijdende luchtverontreiniging over lange afstand ondertekend.

(3) All Member States have signed the Gothenburg Protocol of 1 December 1999 to the 1979 Convention of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on long-range transboundary air pollution to abate acidification, eutrophication and ground-level ozone, which includes, inter alia, commitments to reduce emissions of sulphur dioxide and oxides of nitrogen.
(3) Alle lidstaten hebben het Protocol van Gothenburg van 1 december 1999 bij het Verdrag van de Economische Commissie van de Verenigde Naties voor Europa van 1979 betreffende grensoverschrijdende luchtverontreiniging, ter bestrijding van verzuring, eutrofiëring en ozon op leefniveau ondertekend; dit protocol bevat o.a. toezeggingen om de emissies van zwaveldioxide en stikstofoxiden te verlagen.

It seems to have been overlooked by many that these amendments, if carried, would leave the European Union in a much weaker position with regard to ozone targets than is enjoyed by the United States of America.
Veel mensen lijken over het hoofd te zien dat als deze amendementen worden aangenomen, de Europese Unie wat de streefwaarden voor ozon betreft veel zwakker staat dan de Verenigde Staten.
