It is the first measure to provide a European perspective on the competitiveness of regions in the EU. It builds on the approach of the Global Competitiveness Index of the World Economic Forum (GCI-WEF).
Het is de eerste maatstaf die een Europees perspectief biedt op het concurrentievermogen van regio's in de EU. De indicator bouwt voort op de benadering van de Global Competitiveness Index van het Wereld Economisch Forum (GCI-WEF).

The survey was replied to by a representative sample of firms in all countries representing the main sectors of the economy (agriculture, manufacturing industry, non- manufacturing industry, and services).
