(11a) The proposed monitoring activity could make a substantial contribution to fulfilment of the monitoring requirements deriving from other EU commitments, such as from the European Climate Change Programme, the EU Biodiversity Strategy and corresponding Biodiversity Action Plans, the Sixth Environment Action Programme, Directive 92/43/EEC on habitats, the Soil Strategy, and the forthcoming scheduled work on soil.

(10a) The proposed monitoring activity could assist substantially the monitoring requirements deriving from other EU commitments, such as from the European Climate Change Programme, the EU Biodiversity Strategy and corresponding Biodiversity Action Plans, the 6th Environmental Action Programme, the EC Habitats Directive, the Soil Strategy, and the forthcoming scheduled work on soil.

7. Calls on the Commission, as a matter of urgency, to complete the European Climate Change Programme (ECCP) and come forward with specific proposals for the implementation of policies and measures within six months after COP 6, which, proceeding along strategic lines and using as a basis the work carried out by the working groups and the Commission, should consider each economic sector and policy or measure proposed in detail, specifying its degree of importance, the related implementation cost, the extent, expressed as a quantity, to which the sector, policy, or measure will serve to meet the greenhouse gas abatement commitment, the relevant implementation schedule, and the intermediate objectives and coordination provisions applicable;
7. verzoekt de Commissie het EPK zo spoedig mogelijk af te ronden en binnen zes maanden na de COP 6 specifieke voorstellen over de uitvoering van beleidslijnen en maatregelen voor te leggen waarin zij per bedrijfstak en per voorgesteld beleid of maatregel op grond van de werkzaamheden van de werkgroepen en de Commissie een strategisch overzicht geeft van hun belang, de uitvoeringskosten, hun gekwantificeerde bijdrage aan de afgesproken reductie van broeikasgasemissies, het tijdpad voor de uitvoering ervan, de tussentijdse doelstellingen en de coördinatie-instrumenten;

In line with the undertakings given in Rio, it will launch initiatives and make proposals for saving the tropical forests and ratifying the climate change and biological diversity conventions. It will take part in the negotiations for a convention on desertification and in the work of the UN Commission on sustainable development.
Overeenkomstig haar toezeggingen te Rio zal zij initiatieven nemen en voorstellen formuleren voor de bescherming van de tropische wouden en de ratificatie van de overeenkomsten inzake klimaat en biodiversiteit; verder zal zij deelnemen aan de voorbereidende besprekingen voor een toekomstige overeenkomst over de woestijnvorming, alsmede aan de werkzaamheden van de bij de Verenigde Naties ingestelde commissie voor duurzame ontwikkeling.
