Calls on the competent authorities to deal in a resolute manner with poor law enforcement and tax collection as well as with the large informal economy, all of which are hampering the country’s social cohesion and economic prospects; encourages the new Government to enforce measures and legislation to promote employment, health and safety in the workplace, social security rights, the right to protection against discrimination on any grounds in the field of labour, equal pay for men and women and other labour-related laws, especially among young people and women;

Points out that the gender pay and career development gap remains for women working in the ICT sector; stresses that the principle of equal pay for equal work in the same workplace to ensure just and fair wages is being challenged, even though it constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of social justice in the labour market and should therefore be protected above all else; reiterates that inequalities should not be allowed to take root in the digital economy as regards equal pay and career development; stresses that increased participation of women in the labour market and related investments in social inclusion policies will help to reduce the gender pay gap; highlights the importance of collective bargaining also in the digital market economy in order to safeguard quality and security of jobs in times of digitalisation.

K. whereas independent trade unions have a crucial role to play in the field of labour relations in this critical period of political, economic and social transition in Egypt; whereas there are regular reports of cases of restrictions on the right of workers to establish independent unions and of reprisals and acts of intimidation against those attempting to organise and to strike; whereas the failure of employers to recognise or negotiate with independent unions is a source of considerable social tension;

Member States should avoid unsustainable macroeconomic imbalances, arising notably from developments in current accounts, asset markets and the balance sheets of the household and corporate sectors. Member States with large current account imbalances rooted in a persistent lack of competitiveness or due to other reasons should address the underlying causes by acting, for example, on fiscal policy, on wage developments, on structural reforms relating to product and financial services markets (including the flow of productivity enhancing capital), on labour markets, in line with the employment guidelines, or on any other relevant policy area.

Notes that social security, health and safety in the workplace, the right to form trade unions, industrial relations and social dialogue represent major challenges for China's future; calls on China to ratify key International Labour Organization Conventions, particularly Convention 87 concerning Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise and 98 on Collective Bargaining and to comply with the framework provisions of the International Labour Organization regarding effective measures to combat all forms of modern slavery, child labour and exploitation, particularly of female workers, so as to ensure respect for the fundamental rights of workers and discourage social dumping; invites the Commission to intensify and to report back regularly on the structured dialogue with its Chinese counterparts in these fields;
