IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

The agreement aims to ensure that adequate rules on the protection of intellectual property are applied in all member countries, on the basis of the basic obligations laid down by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in the various conventions on intellectual property rights (the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, the Rome Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organisations, and the Washington Treaty on Intellectual Property in Respect of Integrated Circuits).
Doel van de overeenkomst is de toepassing te waarborgen van adequate normen voor de bescherming van de intellectuele eigendom in alle landen die lid zijn. A number of international organisations have direct competence in dealing with issues relating to biotechnology - biosafety is addressed by the Cartagena Protocol, biodiversity by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), agriculture by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), intellectual property rights and technology transfer by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and World Trade Organisation (WTO), trade by the WTO, risk analysis of foods derived from modern biotechnology in Codex Alimentarius under the World Health Organisation (WHO)/FAO, plant protection under the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), and the development of consensus documents by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Calls on the Commissionand the Member States to uphold IPRs more effectively in all relevant multilateral organisations (the WTO, the World Health Organisation and the World Intellectual Property Organisation) andto work towards the inclusion in the WTO system of those IPR-related international agreements that are not yet part of it, such as the WIPO Trademark Law Treaty, the WIPO Phonograms and Performance Treaty, the WIPO Copyright Treaty, the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement and the Lisbon Agreement for the Protection of Appellations of Origin and their International Registration;

G. whereas the evolving ABS regime under the CDB operates in a complementary fashion with the WTO and its Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (WTO-TRIPS), the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) and the World Health Organisation (WHO);
G. overwegende dat het zich ontwikkelende stelsel voor toegang en batenverdeling in het kader van het VBD een aanvulling is op de WTO met haar Overeenkomst inzake de handelsaspecten van de intellectuele eigendom (WTO-TRIPS), de Wereldorganisatie voor de Intellectuele Eigendom (WIPO), de Voedsel- en Landbouworganisatie (FAO), de Internationale Unie tot bescherming van kweekproducten (UPOV) en de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO);

36. Notes the work of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, and encourages similar measures to be taken and consistent definitions to be used at EU level;

Regrets the lack of specific means available to European businesses, and particularly SMEs, to counter intellectual property rights (IPR) infringements effectively; welcomes the Commission’s decision to propose a review of the directive on the enforcement of IPR; calls on the Commission and the Member States to improve the defence of IPR in all relevant multilateral organisations (WTO, World Health Organisation, World Intellectual Property Organisation);
30. betreurt het gebrek aan concrete middelen dat Europese ondernemingen, en in het bijzonder kmo’s, ter beschikking staat om schendingen van intellectuele-eigendomsrechten (IER) efficiënter te bestrijden; is ingenomen met de beslissing van de Commissie om een herziening van de richtlijn betreffende de handhaving van IER voor te stellen; vraagt de Commissie en de lidstaten de IER beter te verdedigen in alle relevante multilaterale organisaties (WTO, Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie, Wereldorganisatie voor de intellectuele eigendom);
