IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

These projects concern improvements to treatment networks, collectors and the adaptation of existing treatment stations to meet higher standards, as in the case of the project to extend the station at Besós (Catalonia). This project concerns the extension of biological treatment to waste water to comply with the environmental directives and allow the treatment of some 525 000 m3/day of waste water.
Bij deze projecten gaat het erom rioleringsstelsels en zuiveringsstations te verbeteren en bestaande zuiveringsinstallaties geschikt te maken voor nabehandeling, zoals bijvoorbeeld het uitbreidingsproject van het zuiveringsstation in Besós (Catalonië). Compost quality criteria will be adopted under the end-of-waste provision proposed for the Waste Framework Directive and the Commission will propose that biological treatment of waste be brought under the scope of the IPPC Directive when it is revised.
In de context van de in de kaderrichtlijn afvalstoffen voorgestelde bepaling ter vaststelling wanneer afval niet langer als dusdanig wordt beschouwd, zullen criteria voor de kwaliteit van compost worden aangenomen. De Commissie zal bij de herziening van de IPPC-richtlijn ook voorstellen om de biologische behandeling van afval onder het toepassingsgebied van die richtlijn te laten vallen.

Where it is not possible to send waste water for centralised treatment, on-site waste water treatment shall include pretreatment (sieve/bar-rack, equalisation and sedimentation) followed by biological treatment with > 95 % BOD (biochemical oxygen demand) removal, > 90 % nitrification and (off-site) anaerobic digestion of excess sludge (2 points).

Urges the Commission and the Member States to promote environmental awareness-raising activities in the field of bio-waste, particularly in schools and higher education institutions so as to promote better waste prevention behaviour patterns, to foster the sustainable management of bio-waste and municipal solid waste and to raise public awareness of waste prevention and recycling as well as the advantages of separate collection and the biological treatment of bio-waste; stresses in this context the important role of towns, municipalities and municipal undertakings in advising and informing citizens about prevention of waste;

Calls on the Commission to elaborate in its impact assessment an improved system for the management of bio-waste regarding the recycling of separately collected bio-waste, the use of composting for agricultural and ecological benefit, the mechanical/biological treatment options, and the use of bio-waste as a source for generating energy; considers that this impact assessment should be used as a basis for preparing a new European Union legal framework on biodegradable waste;
5. vraagt de Commissie in haar effectbeoordeling een beter systeem voor het beheer van bioafval uit te werken op het vlak van de recycling van gescheiden ingezameld bioafval, het gebruik van compostering ten behoeve van landbouw en milieu, de opties voor mechanische en biologische behandeling en het gebruik van bioafval als bron voor energieopwekking; vindt dat deze effectbeoordeling moet worden gebruikt als basis voor de opstelling van een nieuw regelgevingskader van de Europese Unie inzake biologisch afbreekbaar afval;

The implementation of the landfill directive will be a major driver for the development of waste management policies at national level during the current decade, including efforts to promote the diversion of waste towards material recycling and biological treatments.
De tenuitvoerlegging van de richtlijn storten zal in het lopende decennium een belangrijke stimu lans zijn voor de ontwikkeling van afvalbeheerbeleid op nationaal niveau, en daartoe behoren ook inspanningen om het scheiden van afvalstoffen te bevorderen met het oog op recycling van materialen en biologische verwerking.
