2. The checks shall comprise analysis of the processing chain, examination of the commercial documents, and physical checks on stocks to ensure that the raw materials delivered correspond to the end products, co-products and by-products obtained.

Article 31 of Regulation (EC) No 479/2008 lays down that the analysis methods for establishing the composition of the products covered by that Regulation and the rules for checking whether those products have been subjected to processes in violation of authorised oenological practice are those recommended and published by the OIV in the Compendium of International Methods of Analysis of Wines and Musts. Where specific analysis methods are necessary for certain Community wine products and they have not been established by the OIV, those Community methods should be described.

6. For each occurrence monitored in accordance with paragraphs 1 and 2, each Member State shall carry out stringent checks on the analysis made and action taken by the organisations for which it is responsible.

For the purpose of the suggested actions referred to in paragraph 1, namely sighting and reporting, discreet surveillance, specific checks, or operational analysis, personal data within any of the categories referred to in Article 3 may be included in the Customs Information System only if, especially on the basis of prior illegal activities, there are real indications to suggest that the person concerned has committed, is in the act of committing, or will commit serious contraventions of national laws.
