We are happy to have a large choice of food products across the EU.=, but this requires pan-European systems and rules on food safety, consumer protection and animal health and making sure that risky products do not enter our Union – all tasks that can be best tackled through cooperation on customs controls.

The aim is to have at EU level a simple, user-friendly tool bringing together all the rights of users of electronic communications services in the areas of ICT (Information and Communications Technology) and consumer protection.

In the rapporteur’s view, the objectives of the new regulation on novel foods are to attain a high level of food safety, consumer protection, environmental protection and protection of animal health, while at all times observing the precautionary principle, as laid down in Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety.
Naar de mening van de rapporteur zijn de doelstellingen van de nieuwe verordening betreffende nieuwe voedingsmiddelen het behalen van een hoog niveau van voedselveiligheid, consumentenbescherming, bescherming van het milieu en bescherming van de dierengezondheid terwijl te allen tijde het voorzorgsbeginsel zoals neergelegd in Verordening (EG) nr. 178/2002 van het Europese Parlement en de Raad van 28 januari 2002 tot vaststelling van de algemene beginselen en voorschriften van de levensmiddelenwetgeving, tot oprichting van een Europese Autoriteit voor voedselveiligheid en tot vaststelling van procedures voor voedselveiligheidsaangelegenheden in acht dient te worden gehouden.

In the rapporteur's view, the objectives of the new regulation on novel foods are to attain a high level of food safety, consumer protection, environmental protection and protection of animal health while at all times the precautionary principle as laid down in Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 January 2002 laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety must be observed.
Naar de mening van de rapporteur zijn de doelstellingen van de nieuwe verordening betreffende nieuwe voedingsmiddelen het behalen van een hoog niveau van voedselveiligheid, consumentenbescherming, bescherming van het milieu en bescherming van de dierengezondheid terwijl te allen tijde het voorzorgsbeginsel zoals neergelegd in Verordening (EG) nr. 178/2002 van het Europese Parlement en de Raad van 28 januari 2002 tot vaststelling van de algemene beginselen en voorschriften van de levensmiddelenwetgeving, tot oprichting van een Europese Autoriteit voor voedselveiligheid en tot vaststelling van procedures voor voedselveiligheidsaangelegenheden in acht dient te worden gehouden.

3. The provisions of this Directive shall apply without prejudice to Community rules on consumer protection, in particular Directives 93/13/EEC and 97/7/EC, and to national rules in conformity with Community law.

CONSUMER CREDIT - COUNCIL RESOLUTION "THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION HAVING regard to the Treaty establishing the European Community; HAVING regard to Directive 87/102/EEC [2] on the approximation of the laws, regulations and administrative provisions of the Member States concerning consumer credit, as amended by Directive 90/88/EEC [3] , HAVING regard to the Report on the operation of Directive 87/102/EEC [4] prepared by the Commission, CONSIDERING the right of consumers to protection of their economic interests; CONSIDERING the major role of consumer credit for the European economy as a whole; CONSIDERING that differences in the laws of the Member States in the field of consumer credit and their enforcement can lead to distortions of competition between grantors of credit in the common market; CONSIDERING that these differences of law and practice between Member States can lead to consumer protection in the field of consumer credit which differs between Member States; WHEREAS the consumer credit market has developed rapidly, with advances in financial techniques, and that the Internal Market for credit now has a definite regulatory framework in the Banking Directives; WHEREAS most Member States have, in transposing the Directive, supplemented the Directive's provisions in order to further strengthen consumer protection; WHEREAS the Commission, in its Report, has identified a number of areas which, in order to take account of developments in the field of consumer credit, are important for the protection of the consumer; WHEREAS action in this field at the Community level has to be taken in accordance with the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality applied in conformity with the approach agreed by the European Council in Edinburgh on 12 December 1992; WHEREAS the Commission, in its Report, has also recommended the opening of a broad discussion on other subjects which did not feature in the original Directive, 1.
