Is of the opinion that reinforcing political dialogue and cooperation with the European Parliament (the Parliament of a Union of 25 States and representing around 450 million people from 2004 on), will contribute to the success of the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to develop, in close cooperation with the International Parliamentary Union, a parliamentary dimension of the UN; it will also reinforce the democratic dimension to the UN, promoting its rapprochement to the citizens of one of the most relevant regions of the world and a major partner in the resolution of the challenges and threats that the world faces today;
40. is van oordeel dat de versterking van de politieke dialoog en de samenwerking met het Europees Parlement (het Parlement van een Unie van 25 staten dat vanaf 2004 ongeveer 450 miljoen mensen vertegenwoordigt) een bijdrage zal leveren aan het welslagen van het streven van de secretaris-generaal van de VN naar de ontwikkeling, in nauwe samenwerking met de internationale Parlementaire Unie, van een parlementaire dimensie van de VN; tevens zal het een versterking betekenen van de democratische dimensie van de VN doordat het een toenadering betekent tot de burgers van een van de belangrijkste regio's ter wereld die de belangrijkste partner is om de uitdagingen en bedreigingen waarmee de wereld thans wordt geconfronteerd, tegemoet te treden;

Is of the opinion that reinforcing political dialogue and co-operation with the European Parliament (the Parliament of a Union of 25 States and representing around 450 million people from 2004 on), will contribute to the success of the efforts of the UN Secretary General to develop, in close co-operation with the International Parliamentary Union, a parliamentary dimension of the UN; it will also reinforce the democratic dimension to the UN, promoting its rapprochement to the citizens of one of the most relevant regions of the world and a major partner in the resolution of the challenges and threats that the world faces today;

Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the European Council, the Commission, the governments and parliaments of the Member States and candidate countries, the Co-Presidents of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, the Secretaries-General of the United Nations, African Union, Commonwealth, OECD and Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly, United Nations Security Council, United Nations Economic and Social Council, European Investment Bank, World Bank and International Monetary Fund, and the Directors-General of the Food and Agriculture Programme, World Food Programme, United Nations Development Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
