Putting land and other farm assets into private ownership or private operation took a number of different forms, leading to different degrees of fragmentation of ownership and of farms. A general feature in the countries, which had a predominantly collectivised agriculture in the pre-transition era, appears to be that the dualistic character - very large scale collective or state farms on the one hand and very small individual or private plots on the other - is slowly diminishing.
