The identification set out in paragraph 1 shall be based on the review of all information obtained pursuant to Chapters II, III, IV, V, VIII, X and XI, or, as appropriate, any other relevant information, such as the catch data, trade information obtained from national statistics and other reliable sources, vessel registers and databases, catch documents or statistical document programmes and IUU vessel lists adopted by regional fisheries management organisations, as well as any other information obtained in the ports and on the fishing grounds.

For about a decade now, beginning with the establishment of a statistical tracking system for bluefin tuna and culminating with a series of import bans for tuna originating from countries that have been identified as fishing in a manner undermining ICCAT's conservation and management measures, ICCAT has been spear-heading ways to discourage IUU fishing. Indeed, there is now a very impressive and progressive package of measures dealing with this destructive practice, concentrating on fishing by vessels flying Flags of Convenience.

17. Calls on the Commission to speed up the process of harmonising statistical data and concepts relating to occupational accidents with a view to establishing uniform criteria which will make it possible to identify the causes of fishing accidents and developments in that field, and therefore calls for a regulation designed to ensure that the Member States apply the various stages of the European statistics on fishing accidents and European statistics on occupational diseases;
17. verzoekt de Commissie het proces van harmonisatie van de statistische gegevens en de definities van begrippen op het gebied van arbeidsongevallen te versnellen, teneinde uniforme criteria te kunnen hanteren en aldus inzicht te krijgen in de oorzaken en de evolutie van de ongevallen in de visserijsector; wenst dat te dien einde een voorstel wordt ingediend voor een verordening betreffende toepassing door de lidstaten van de verschillende fases van de Europese Statistieken inzake Visserijongevallen en de Europese Statistieken inzake Beroepsziekten;
