From the perspective of our long-term energy security, nuclear energy is the solution that can guarantee a sufficient amount of energy with the lowest levels of carbon dioxide emissions and, therefore, we must place great emphasis on the related question of the safe storage and production of fuel. Providing impetus for further research into modern energy technologies, such as the innovation involving fusion-based reactors, is also indispensable.

T. whereas, in the interests of finding a diplomatic solution to the issue of Iran's nuclear programme, the EU, the United States, China and Russia had proposed that an agreement be reached, under the auspices of the IAEA, to ship Iran's existing low-enriched uranium to Russia and France for processing into fuel rods to keep the Tehran Medical Research reactor running, and noting that, since Iran rejected this proposal, debates have been ongoing in the Security Council on more stringent sanctions against Iran,

Deplores the fact that Iran has not agreed with the IAEA to a scheme to supply nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor, which would contribute to building confidence while responding to Iran’s need for medical radio-isotopes; notes with great concern that Iran has failed to take up repeated offers by China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and the EU High Representative Javier Solana to further discuss its nuclear programme and other issues of mutual concern; remains committed, nonetheless, to working towards a diplomatic solution to the issue of Iran’s nuclear programme;
