To ensure that a high proportion of spent batteries and accumulators are recycled, Member States must take whatever measures are needed (including economic instruments) to promote and maximise separate waste collections and prevent batteries and accumulators being thrown away as unsorted municipal refuse.

Om ervoor te zorgen dat een hoog percentage gebruikte batterijen en accu's wordt gerecycled, moeten lidstaten alle mogelijke maatregelen (inclusief economische instrumenten) treffen om gescheiden afvalinzamelingen te bevorderen en maximaliseren en te voorkomen dat batterijen en accu's als ongesorteerd stedelijk afval worden weggegooid.
