The rapporteur has therefore opted to propose an authorisation procedure based on the procedure laid down in Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 September 2003 on genetically modified food and feed, which was carefully drafted with a view to consumer protection and environmental protection, and also the most recently devised specific procedure for novel foods.
