Regrets the fact that the Commission approach aimed at tackling gender inequalities mainly treats the reconciliation of professional and family life as a women’s issue; notes that measures aimed at promoting reconciliation for both men and women are crucial for the creation of jobs and have a direct influence in the quality of jobs created; notes that access to affordable and quality childcare services is still a major barrier to such reconciliation, and calls, therefore, on the Commission to pay attention to this indicator when analysing the scoreboard of key employment and social indicators;

The Integrated Guidelines invite Member States to take action for achieving better reconciliation of family and working life. A better family and work balance can also help to tackle the problems associated with demographic ageing, and in particular the challenge of a low birth rate. This includes the provision of childcare facilities, as well as care for other dependants. Particular attention will be paid to developing innovative, family-friendly forms of working arrangements. Reconciliation of work and private life is key in promoting gender equality for young women and men.
De geïntegreerde richtsnoeren vragen de lidstaten om maatregelen waardoor werk en gezinstaken beter met elkaar te combineren zijn. Door betere mogelijkheden om gezinstaken en werk met elkaar te combineren kunnen de problemen in verband met de vergrijzing en de met name uit het lage geboortecijfer voortvloeiende uitdagingen beter worden aangepakt. Dit betekent dat er aan voorzieningen voor kinderopvang en de verzorging van andere hulpbehoevende familieleden moet worden gewerkt. Bijzondere aandacht dient ook uit te gaan naar nieuwe familievriendelijke arbeidsmodellen. De te bevorderen gelijkheid tussen jonge vrouwen en mannen staat of valt met mogelijkheden om werk en gezinstaken te combineren.
