Today's high-level meeting with religious leaders is the 13 annual high-level meeting organised by the Commission. Since 2009, the dialogue with churches, religious communities, philosophical and non-confessional organisations is enshrined in the Lisbon Treaty (Art 17 TFEU).
De bijeenkomst op hoog niveau met religieuze leiders die vandaag heeft plaatsgevonden, was de dertiende in een jaarlijkse reeks waarmee de Commissie is begonnen in 2009, toen de dialoog met kerken en religieuze gemeenschappen alsook met levensbeschouwelijke en niet-confessionele organisaties in het Verdrag van Lissabon werd vastgelegd (artikel 17 VWEU).

Today's high-level meeting, part of the regular dialogue with churches, religious communities, philosophical and non-confessional organisations foreseen under Article 17 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU)* provided an occasion to hold in-depth discussions on questions addressing issues of values and governance.
Deze bijeenkomst op hoog niveau maakt deel uit van de regelmatige dialoog met kerken, religieuze gemeenschappen, levensbeschouwelijke en niet-confessionele organisaties in de zin van artikel 17 van het Verdrag betreffende de werking van de Europese Unie (VWEU)*. Welcomes the continued implementation of legislation amending the 2008 law on foundations and broadening the scope of the restoration of the property rights of non‑Muslim communities; calls on the relevant authorities to assist the Syriac community in resolving the difficulties they face in dealing with property and land registration matters; calls for a solution for the large number of properties of the Latin Catholic Church that remain confiscated by the state; notes that progress has been particularly slow in extending the rights of the Alevi minority; recalls the urgent need to continue vital and substantial reform in the area of freedom of thought, conscience and religion, in particular by enabling religious communities to obtain legal personality, by eliminating all restrictions on the training, appointment and succession of clergy, by recognising Alevi places of worships and by complying with the relevant judgments of the ECtHR and the recommendations of the Venice Commission; calls on Turkey to ensure that the Saint Gabriel Monastery is not deprived of its lands and that it is protected in its entirety; believes that a broader composition of the Directorate General for Religious Affairs, so as to include representatives of religious minorities, would prove beneficial, as it would promote an inclusive concept of society; calls on Turkey to remove the reference to religion from national identity cards and to guarantee that religious education respects the religious diversity and plurality of Turkish society;

Calls on the authorities to comply with Vietnam’s international obligations by putting an end to religious persecution and removing legal hindrances to independent religious organisations freely conducting peaceful religious activities, which entails the recognition of all religious communities, the free practice of religion and the restitution of assets arbitrarily seized by the state from the Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam, the Catholic Church and any other religious community;
5. roept de autoriteiten op de internationale verplichtingen van Vietnam na te komen door een eind te maken aan vervolgingen op grond van religie alsmede juridische belemmeringen weg te nemen voor onafhankelijke religieuze organisaties die vrijelijk vreedzame religieuze activiteiten ontplooien, hetgeen inhoudt dat zij alle religieuze gemeenschappen moeten erkennen, godsdienstbeoefening moeten toestaan en de activa van de Verenigde Boeddhistische Kerk van Vietnam, de katholieke kerk en alle andere religieuze gemeenschappen die op willekeurige gronden door de overheid in beslag zijn genomen, moeten teruggeven;

33. Reiterates its call on the Turkish authorities, expressed in its previous resolutions, to fulfil their commitments regarding freedom of religion and to take concrete steps to eradicate obstacles facing religious minorities as regards, in particular, their legal status, the training of clergy and their property rights (the Ecumenical Patriarchate, for example, has suffered the expropriation of 30 properties in recent times); calls for an immediate stop to all seizure and selling off by the Turkish authorities of properties belonging to religious communities; calls for the immediate re-opening of the Greek Orthodox Halki seminary and the public use of the ecclesiastical title of the Ecumenical Patriarch; calls for the protection and recognition of the Alevis, including the recognition of Cem houses as religious centres; calls for the protection and recognition of the Yezidis and the establishment of Yezidi places of prayer, and for all religious education to be voluntary and to cover not only the Sunni religion, and for the establishment of an alternative subject, for those who do not wish to take part in religious instruction, in which values, standards and ethical issues are discussed; calls for the protection of the fundamental rights of all Christian minorities and communities in Turkey (e.g. the Greeks of Istanbul, Imvros and Tenedos);
