Reiterates the importance of protecting and preserving the cultural heritage against the possible harmful effects of structural changes caused by tourism activities, and against the risks posed by mass tourism, especially during the high season; gives priority to the quality of the work performed rather than its cost; stresses, in this context, the role that patronage can play in helping to conserve the European heritage and compensating for the decline in public budgets allocated for this purpose;
43. herhaalt het belang van bescherming en vrijwaring van cultureel erfgoed tegen de mogelijk schadelijke effecten van structurele veranderingen door het toerisme en tegen de risico's die het massatoerisme, met name in het hoogseizoen, kan opleveren; hecht daarbij meer prioriteit aan de kwaliteit van het uitgevoerde werk dan aan de kosten; benadrukt in dit verband dat er een rol is weggelegd voor beschermheerschap als bijdrage aan de instandhouding van het Europees erfgoed, en als tegenwicht tegen de verlaging van de hieraan toegewezen overheidsbudgetten;
