Stresses that sectoral organisations may take initiatives, provided that a Community authorisation framework is established, which could cover, for example: the fuller exploitation of the production potential, consumer information concerning moderate wine consumption, the conduct of the research necessary to channel production to products which are better geared to domestic and export market requirements, indispensable commercial investments, the search for new means of restricting the use of plant protection substances, the switch towards organic farming etc.;

Stresses that interprofessional organisations may take initiatives in the following areas, provided that a Community authorisation framework is established, which could cover, for example: the fuller exploitation of the production potential, consumer information concerning moderate wine consumption, the conduct of the research necessary to channel production to products which are better geared to domestic and export market requirements, indispensable commercial investments, the search for new means of restricting the use of plant protection substances, the switch towards organic farming etc.;

What we are proposing is a different type of reform of the common organisation of the market in wine that values sustainable winemaking, the traditional characteristics of winemaking, small and medium-sized farming and family farming, the sector’s social and cultural role, and its important contribution towards regional and national development.
Wij pleiten voor een ander soort hervorming van de gemeenschappelijke ordening voor de wijnmarkt waarin prioriteit wordt verleend aan duurzame wijnbouw, instandhouding van de traditie, kleine en middelgrote ondernemingen en familiebedrijven, de sociale en culturele rol van de sector en de belangrijke bijdrage ervan aan de regionale en nationale ontwikkeling.

This trend is mainly due to the following factors: (a) two years of application of the CAP reform have resulted in a reduction in price support and measures to control production which have had a positive impact on prices and markets, as well as the grant of compensatory aid which provides an element of stability for farm incomes despite fluctuations in the weather and the economic situation; (b) real prices have caught up or stabilized following the large drops in 1993 caused by structural imbalances (wine) or cyclical ones, (fruit and vegetables, potatoes and pigmeat).
Bovengenoemde ontwikkeling is hoofdzakelijk het resultaat van : a) twee jaren hervormd GLB in het kader waarvan de prijsondersteuning is verlaagd en produktiebeheersende maatregelen zijn toegepast, wat een positief effect heeft gehad op de marktprijzen en de marktsituatie, en daarnaast de compenserende steun is toegepast die een belangrijk inkomensstabiliserend effect heeft bij conjuncturele schommelingen of buitengewone weersomstandigheden; b) een inhaalbeweging of een stabilisatie van de reële prijzen, na de sterke dalingen in 1993 als gevolg van een structureel (wijn), of conjunctureel (groenten en fruit, aardappelen, varkensvlees) verstoord marktevenwicht.
