(6) Om milieuredenen en met het oog op het marktevenwicht moet een basisareaal per lidstaat worden vastgesteld dat prioriteit verleent aan de traditionele teeltgebieden, waarborgen biedt voor het voortbestaan van de katoenteelt in gebieden waar de productie van speciaal belang is voor de landbouweconomie en dat een adequaat beheer van het irrigatiewater mogelijk maakt alsook milieuvriendelijke vruchtwisselings- en teeltmethoden en met name de instandhouding van de bodemgesteldheid van de grond waarop de katoen wordt geteeld.

Stresses the need to improve the quality of the permanent inventory of resources which have already been collected in the framework of Regulation 1467/94, in particular by facilitating a better listing and description of in situ collections of plants, animals and trees and by improving the description of the special characteristics with regard to usefulness (cultivation or rearing conditions, importance for landscape conservation, special characteristics with regard to processing, storage, taste, colour, etc.);

1. The supporting documents to be supplied pursuant to the first subparagraph of Article 5 (2) of Regulation (EEC) No 2529/80 shall include: (a) documents concerning special cultivation operations carried out on the olive grove;
