Calls on the Commission, the Council and the Member States, in consultation with the social partners (workers and employers) to define a common position and strategy on fundamental social standards, particularly in the run-up to the new round of multilateral WTO negotiations and in the light of the progress needing to be made in that forum; recalls in that connection that the EU negotiating mandate adopted in the run-up to the 3 WTO Ministerial Conference in Seattle is still legally valid;
