As draftsman for the INTA Committee, I have worked with colleagues to ensure that the future shape of this instrument reflects the progressive gains made by the European Parliament over the years in terms of poverty alleviation and empowerment.
Als rapporteur voor advies van de Commissie internationale handel heb ik mij er samen met mijn collega’s voor ingespannen dat de steeds verder gaande winst die het Europees Parlement in de loop der jaren geboekt heeft wat betreft armoedeverlichting en empowerment weerspiegeld wordt in de toekomstige vorm van dit instrument.

Poverty-alleviation should rightly remain the central focus of any development cooperation instrument and therefore further discussion is needed by the relevant Committees (Development Committee and International Trade Committee) in this context.
Het is terecht dat armoedeverlichting centraal blijft staan bij elk ontwikkelingssamenwerkingsinstrument, en daarom is verder overleg nodig tussen de bevoegde commissies op dit terrein (de Commissie ontwikkelingssamenwerking en de Commissie internationale handel).
