The proposal would adjust and complement the existing legal framework, with particular emphasis on new products and services containing intellectual property (both on-line and on physical carriers such as CDs, CD-ROMs and Digital Video Discs), so as to ensure a Single Market in copyright and related rights while protecting and stimulating creativity and innovation within the European Union (EU).
Het voorstel houdt een aanpassing en aanvulling in van het bestaande rechtskader waarbij inzonderheid nadruk is gelegd op nieuwe producten en diensten waarin intellectuele eigendom is vervat (zowel via netwerken als via fysieke dragers zoals CD's, CD-ROM's en Digital Video Discs) teneinde de interne markt op gebied van het auteursrecht en de naburige rechten veilig te stellen en de creativiteit en de innovatie in de Gemeenschap te beschermen en te stimuleren.
