Pour trouver les directives et les revues, les sites suivants ont été consultés : Medline ( limites : guidelines ou RCT), NICE, Health Council of the Netherlands (HCN), National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC), International Network of Agencies for HealthTechnology Assessment (INAHTA) et Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI).
Daarbij werden de volgende zoektermen gebruikt : ÿ perioperative care Ÿ en ÿ routine test Ÿ, vervolgens ÿ preoperative test Ÿ. De volgende sites werden geraaadpleegd : Medline (criteria: guidelines of RCT), NICE, Nederlandse Gezondheidsraad (HCN), National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC), International Network of Agencies for Health Technology Assessment (INAHTA) en Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI).

Ce travail est volontairement limité aux patients âgés de > 16 ans et aux procédures électives (non urgentes) classées par le guideline du National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) 2 comme : chirurgie mineure, intermédiaire ou majeure à lÊexclusion de la chirurgie cardiaque ou thoracique.
Dit document werd bewust beperkt tot patiënten ouder dan 16 jaar en tot de electieve (niet dringende) procedures zoals in de guideline van het National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) 2 . Het gaat om minimaal invasieve chirurgie, intermediaire chirurgie en majeure chirurgie met uitsluiting van cardiale en thoraxchirurgie.
