De risico’s verbonden aan een hoge mangaaninname werden onlangs door de EFSA (European Food Safety Authority, 2006) herzien. Deze heeft uiteindelijk besloten geen standpunt in te nemen en geen maximale waarde van aangeraden inname te bepalen, welke de uitdrukkingswijze ook mocht zijn: ofwel als “in afwezigheid van elk meetbaar ongunstig effect” (NOAEL: No Observed Adverse Effect Level) ofwel als “aanvaardbare hoogste inname” (UL: Tolerable Upper intake level).
