A ce jour, des métaux lourds et plus de trois cents contaminants organiques appartenant à différentes classes chimiques ont été identifiés dans les boues d'épuration: substances aromatiques monocycliques, alkyl amines/imines, amines/imines aromatiques, composés organostanniques, hydrocarbures aliphatiques, composés carbonyl, haloéthers, hydrocarbures aromatiques polycycliques (HAP), polychlorbiphényles (PCB), para-dioxines polychlorées et furanes (PCDD/F), pesticides, différents types de polymères et des surfactants.
In waterzuiveringslib werden tot nu toe zware metalen geïdentificeerd en over de driehonderd organische contaminanten behorende tot verschillende chemische klassen: monocyclische aromatische stoffen, alkyl en aromatische amines/imines, organotinverbindingen, alifatische koolwaterstoffen, carbonylverbindingen, haloethers, polycyclische aromatische koolwaterstoffen (PAK’s), polygechloreerde biphenylen (PCB’s), polygechloreerde paradioxines en furanen (PCDD/F’s), pesticiden, verschillende soorten polymeren en surfactantia.
