Les efforts de recherche de sigma-tau sur le front biotechnologique sont particulièrement importants, notamment le développement de PAGRIT® (radio-immunothérapie guidée par anticorps pré-ciblés), qui consiste en l'utilisation d'anticorps monoclonaux spécifiques à la tumeur, véhiculés de façon sélective sur la tumeur, et d'IART (avidination intra-opératoire pour le traitement radionucléide) pour la radiothérapie adjuvante dans le cancer du sein.
Van bijzonder belang is de moeite die sigma-tau zich getroost heeft met betrekking tot onderzoek op biotechnologisch gebied, voornamelijk de ontwikkeling van PAGRIT® (Pretargeted Antibody-Guided Radio-ImmunoTherapy), dat bestaat uit het gebruik van originele tumorspecifieke monoklonale antilichamen, selectief overgebracht op de tumor, en van IART (Intraoperative Avidination for Radionuclide Treatment) voor adjuvante radiotherapie bij borstkanker.
