De meeste osteopaten zijn gevormd in het Verenigd Koninkrijk (Maidstone) of in een van de opleidingen in België die in navolging van deze opleiding georganiseerd werden. Deze opleidingen zijn gebaseerd op de conceptuele oorsprong van de osteopathie (Flanders International College of Osteopathy – FICO ; International Academy of Osteopathy – IAO ; of Belgian School of Osteopathy – BELSO die een gecombineerde opleiding osteopathie/kinesitherapie voorstelt).
