Het belang van de olijfteelt blijkt uit het feit dat er in 1698 zeven oliemolens waren op het eiland Cres (fra J. Vlahović, 1995, Odlomci iz povijesti grada Cresa, Zagreb, blz. 104), 11 in 1795 (fra J. Vlahović, 1995, Odlomci iz povijesti grada Cresa, Zagreb, blz. 107) en 24 in 1853 (N. Lemessi, 1979, Note storiche, geografiche, artistiche sull’isola di Cherso, Roma, vol. IV, blz. 358).
Die Bedeutung des Olivenanbaus wird an dem Umstand deutlich, dass auf der Insel Cres bereits im Jahr 1698 sieben Ölmühlen existierten (fra J.
