Reiterates that, notwithstanding the importance of acquiring employability skills, the value, quality and practical use of knowledge and academic rigour should be upheld; emphasises that given the Member States’ different socio-economic situation and diverse educational traditions, blanket prescriptive approaches must be avoided; underlines that the forthcoming European Skills Agenda, while rightly focusing on economic and employment challenges, should equally address the importance of subject knowledge, academic performance, critical thinking and creativity; calls, at the same time, on the Member States to support initiatives in which students would be able to showcase their skills in front of the public and potential employers.

Recommends to the Commission and the Member States respectively that, when devising and implementing Community and national programmes on education, they take account of the particular situation of students with family responsibilities; draws attention to the importance of including in such programmes horizontal measures to make it easier to combine studying with family life; calls for the education system to be made flexible so as to ensure that mothers, following maternity leave, can continue with, and be reintegrated into, their studies at the same level as previously undertaken;

J. whereas the Commission should ensure that the gender perspective is taken into account when developing technical and regulatory instruments; whereas the Commission and Member States should take concrete steps to increase the number of female students in technical fields related to ICT and to ensure that women gain access to new employment opportunities in the ICT area and media at all levels, and that, particular attention should be paid to the situation of women in rural, island, mountainous, and geographically remote areas and other women in the most vulnerable situations,

(11) Het is voorts wenselijk dat duidelijke nadere richtsnoeren worden vastgesteld ten aanzien van de factoren die van belang kunnen zijn voor de vaststelling of de door luchtvaartmaatschappijen uit derde landen geleverde gesubsidieerde of oneerlijk geprijsde luchtdiensten materiële schade hebben veroorzaakt dan wel deze dreigen te veroorzaken; om aan te tonen dat de tariefpraktijken van die luchtdiensten schade toebrengen aan de communautaire bedrijfstak, dient aandacht te worden geschonken aan de gevolgen van andere factoren, omdat gekeken zal worden naar alle relevante en bekende factoren en economische indicatoren die van invloed zijn op de situatie in de betrokken sector, en met name de in de Gemeenschap heersende marktomstandigheden.
(11) It is furthermore desirable to lay down clear and detailed guidance as to the factors which may be relevant for the determination of whether the subsidised or unfairly priced air services provided by non-Community air carriers have caused injury or are threatening to cause injury; in order to demonstrate that the pricing practices related to the supply of such air services cause injury to the Community industry, attention should be given to the effect of other factors, and consideration should be given to all relevant and known factors and economic indicators which have a bearing on the state of the industry, and in particular prevailing market conditions in the Community.
