Verordening (EG) nr. 1073/1999 betreffende onderzoeken door het Europees Bureau voor fraudebestrijding (OLAF) en Besluit 94/262/EGKS, EG, Euratom, inzake het statuut van de Europese ombudsman en de algemene voorwaarden voor de uitoefening van zijn ambt bevatten nuttige voorbeelden hoe enquêtebevoegdheden op supranationaal niveau kunnen worden georganiseerd.
Regulation (EC) No 1073/1999 concerning investigations conducted by OLAF and Decision 94/262/ECSC, EC, Euratom on the Ombudsman's duties gave valuable examples on how to establish powers of inquiry on a supranational level.

Besluit 1999/352/EG, EGKS, Euratom van de Commissie van 28 april 1999 houdende oprichting van het Europees Bureau voor fraudebestrijding (OLAF) (4) en de inwerkingtreding van de Overeenkomst inzake het gebruik van informatica op douanegebied (5), vastgesteld bij besluit van de Raad van 26 juli 1995 (6) hebben het algemene kader veranderd waarbinnen de samenwerking tussen de lidstaten en de Commissie op het gebied van het voorkomen, opsporen en vervolgen en bestraffen van inbreuken op de douane- en landbouwvoorschriften plaatsvindt.
Commission Decision 1999/352/EC, ECSC, Euratom of 28 April 1999 establishing the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) (4) and the Convention on the use of information technology for customs purposes (5), drawn up by Council Act of 26 July 1995 (6), modified the general framework for cooperation between the Member States and the Commission as regards preventing, investigating and prosecuting offences under Community legislation.

Het Bureau behandelt kwesties betreffende discriminatie op grond van geslacht alleen als onderdeel van, en in de mate dat dit relevant is voor zijn werkzaamheden inzake algemene discriminatiekwesties, zoals vermeld in artikel 2, onder b), en met inachtneming van de noodzakelijke integratie van de kwestie van gelijke behandeling van mannen en vrouwen in de algemene benadering van de EU tot de grondrechten, rekening houdend met het feit dat het de algemene doelstelling van het Europees Instituut voor gendergelijkheid, opgericht bij Verordening (EG) nr. 1922/2006, is bij te dragen tot en het versterken van de bevordering van gendergelijkheid, waaronder de integratie van de genderdimensie in het gehele communautaire beleid en het daaruit voortvloeiende nationale beleid, en tot de bestrijding van discriminatie op grond van geslacht, alsmede een grotere bewustwording van gendergelijkheid onder de burgers van de Unie te bewerkstelligen, door technische bijstand te verlenen aan de communautaire instellingen, met name de Commissie, en aan de autoriteiten van de lidstaten.
3. The Agency shall deal with issues relating to discrimination based on sex to the extent relevant to its work to be undertaken on general issues on discrimination referred to in Article 2 point (b) and with respect to the need for integration of the issue of gender equality into the EU´s overall approach to fundamental rights, taking into account that the overall objectives of the European Institute for Gender Equality established by Regulation (EC) No 1922/2006 shall be to contribute to and strengthen the promotion of gender equality, including gender mainstreaming in all Community policies and the resulting national policies, and the fight against discrimination based on sex and to raise EU citizens' awareness of gender equality by providing technical assistance to Community institutions, in particular to the Commission and the authorities of the Member States.
