Coördinatie van de Europese steunverlening aan de CGIAR staat bovenaan de EIARD-agenda.
The coordination of European support to CGIAR is at the top of the EIARD agenda.

In 2012 hebben EIARD-leden (m.i.v. de EU) voor USD 231 miljoen bijgedragen aan het CGIAR-fonds (45% van het totaal).
In 2012, EIARD members (including the EU) provided USD 231 million to the CGIAR Fund (45 % of the total).

Het gaat hierbij o.a. om de steun die is verleend aan wereldwijde initiatieven zoals de CGIAR (de voormalige Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research), regionale organisaties, met name in Afrika, en aan nationale instituten voor landbouwonderzoek.
This included support given to global initiatives such as the CGIAR (formerly Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research), regional organisations, particularly in Africa, as well as national agricultural research institutes.

Dankzij het EIARD beschikt Europa over een van de krachtigste stemmen in de Raad van de CGIAR (zie ook de casestudy in SWD hoofdstuk 2.1).

This funding mainly comprises support for programmes of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), which are implemented by the CGIAR's 15 centres and their implementing partners, and support to regional networks such as the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern, Southern and Central Africa (ASARECA) and the Conseil Ouest et Centre Africain pour la recherche et la Développement Agricole (CORAF).

(3) The wide range of activities carried out in the Member States (by a public sector body or natural or legal persons) and by various international organisations and programmes such as FAO, the European Cooperative Programme for Crop Genetic Resources Networks (ECP/GR), the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR), the Agricultural Research for Development (ARD) regional and subregional organisations supported by the Community, the European Regional Focal Point (ERFP) of National Coordinators for the Management of Farm Animal Genetic Resources, the European Forest Genetic Resources Programme (Euforgen) and the related commitments of the ongoing Ministerial Conference on the protection of forests in Europe (MCPFE) to which the Community is signatory call for an effective information exchange and close coordination between the Community main actors and with the relevant organisations throughout the world with regard to the conservation, characterisation, collection and utilisation of genetic resources in agriculture so as to enhance their positive impact on agriculture.

15.1. De verdragsluitende partijen erkennen het belang voor dit Verdrag van de verzamelingen ex situ van plantgenetische hulpbronnen voor voeding en landbouw bij internationale instituten voor landbouwonderzoek (IARC's) van de Adviesgroep inzake internationaal landbouwonderzoek (CGIAR).
15.1. Held by the International Agricultural Research Centres of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research and other international institutions The Contracting Parties recognise the importance to this Treaty of the ex situ collections of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture held in trust by the International Agricultural Research Centres (IARCs) of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
