De CRC is bij het samenwerkingsakkoord van 2006 opgericht als de instantie voor samenwerking tussen het BIPT (federale staat), de Conseil Supérieur de l'Audiovisuel (CSA – Franse Gemeenschap), de Vlaamse Regulator voor de Media (VRM – Vlaamse Gemeenschap) en de Medienrat (Duitstalige Gemeenschap).
The CRC was established by the 2006 Cooperation Agreement as the body for cooperation between BIPT (Federal State), Conseil Supérieur de l'Audiovisuel (CSA – French speaking Community), Vlaamse Regulator voor de Media (VRM – Flemish Community) and the Medienrat (German speaking Community).

Op 20 mei 2011 heeft de Belgische Conferentie van regulatoren voor de elektronischecommunicatiesector (CRC) overeenkomstig artikel 7 van de EU-kaderrichtlijn voor telecommunicatie de Commissie in kennis gesteld van ontwerpmaatregelen voor de markten voor wholesale-infrastructuur en breedbandtoegang en voor de retailmarkt voor omroepdiensten in België.
On 20 May 2011, the Belgian Conference of Electronic Communications Sector Regulators (CRC) notified the Commission, as required by Article 7 of the EU Telecoms Framework Directive, of draft decisions on the markets for wholesale infrastructure and broadband access and on the retail market for broadcasting services in Belgium.

De Commissie heeft krachtens de "procedure van artikel 7" (MEMO/08/620) brieven met opmerkingen ("comments letters") gezonden aan de CRC.

De NGO verzoekt eveneens om meer kracht te zetten achter artikel 24 van het Handvest door opneming van een referentie naar het CRC (Verdrag van de Verenigde Naties inzake de rechten van het kind) in de preambule van het Handvest. Het CRC staat namelijk borg voor het beginsel van non-discriminatie en bepaalt dat kinderen vrijelijk hun mening tot uiting kunnen brengen, terwijl artikel 24 van het Handvest deze principes niet bevat.
It also calls for Article 24 of the Charter to be reinforced, including a reference to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in the preamble to the Charter since the CRC guarantees the principle of non-discrimination and stipulates that children may express their views freely while Article 24 of the Charter does not mention these principles.
