Stresses once more the importance of the contribution of civil society, trade unions and the media to building deep and sustainable democracy in Egypt; calls on the interim government to guarantee that domestic and international civil society organisations, independent trade unions and journalists can operate freely, without government interference, in the country; calls on the Egyptian authorities to ensure that the committee tasked with writing a new NGO law produces a draft which is in line with international standards; supports the decision of the Foreign Affairs Council of 21 August 2013 that, in the light of the negative impact of the economic situation on the most vulnerable groups of Egyptian society, EU assistance in the socio-economic sector and to civil society will continue;

Stresses that a genuine and independent civil society is of fundamental importance in supporting the peaceful and inclusive political and social transformation of the country; calls on the Egyptian authorities to allow civil society to operate freely, including by ensuring that the committee tasked with writing a new NGO law produces a draft which is in line with international standards; supports the call by regional and Egyptian NGOs for a fact-finding mission by the Arab League to investigate the recent acts of violence in Egypt;

De steun voor maatregelen om de Turks-Cypriotische gemeenschap nader tot de Unie te brengen is gebaseerd op de gedachte dat deze moet worden voorgelicht over de gevolgen van toetreding tot de EU. Vanuit die gedachte zijn de volgende maatregelen gepland: voorlichtingsseminars over het acquis communautaire (i.e. de volledige EU-wet- en regelgeving), bezoeken van geselecteerde groepen aan de EU-instellingen, georganiseerd door de Commissie met het doel informatie te verstrekken over de EU, overleg met de Cypriotische autoriteiten over de mogelijkheden om de deelname van de Turks-Cypriotische gemeenschap aan EU-programma's te bevorderen, ondersteuning van het maatschappelijk middenveld en de sociale partners, en voortzetten van de vertaalwerkzaamheden van het acquis communautaire in het Turks.
The support for actions aiming at bringing the Turkish Cypriot community closer to the Union is based on the idea that this community should be informed on the implication of joining the EU. Therefore, the following activities are foreseen : information seminars on the acquis communautaire (i.e. the entire set of EU rules and legislation) ; visits of selected groups to the EU institutions organised by the Commission to provide more information on the EU ; consultation with the Cypriot authorities on finding ways to encourage the participation of Turkish Cypriots in EU programmes ; support to civil society and social partners ; continuation of the translation of the acquis communautaire into Turkish.
