Op verzoek van het CPV doet het EUMC een initiëringsrichtlijn aan de directeur-generaal van de EUMS (DGEUMS) uitgaan, met het oog op de opstelling en voorlegging van strategische militaire opties.

Tot de inwerkingtreding van dit besluit fungeert de directeur-generaal van de Militaire Staf (DGEUMS), die per 1 maart 2001 in dienst treedt(2), als hoofd van de militaire deskundigen die door de lidstaten bij het Raadssecretariaat worden gedetacheerd(3).
