In zijn resolutie van 17 december 2014 vroeg het Europees Parlement om een nieuwe interneveiligheidsstrategie die toekomstgericht en strategisch zou zijn en gemakkelijk zou kunnen worden aangepast aan de ontwikkelingen, zodat zowel cyberveiligheid als de bestrijding van buitenlandse strijders, mensenhandel, terrorisme, georganiseerde misdaad, witwassen en corruptie in de hele Unie op gecoördineerde wijze zou kunnen worden aangepakt.
In its Resolution of 17 December 2014, the European Parliament called for the new strategy to be forward-looking and easily adaptable to evolving situations with a joined-up approach across the Union to tackle foreign fighters, cyber-security, human trafficking, organised crime, money laundering and corruption.

Today's European Agenda on Security fulfils a commitment made in the Political Guidelines of European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and replaces the previous strategy adopted in 2010 (the Internal Security Strategy 2010-2014 see IP/10/1535).

The Commission therefore invites the European Parliament and the Council to endorse this Agenda as the renewed Internal Security Strategy, with a view to the forthcoming European Council of June 2015, and to actively engage in its implementation, in close cooperation with all relevant actors.
