As a consequence of the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) and the dioxin crises, the obligation to indicate the percentage by weight of all feed materials incorporated in compound feed was introduced in 2002 by Directive 2002/2/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 January 2002 amending Council Directive 79/373/EEC on the circulation of compound feedingstuffs (18), at the initiative of the European Parliament.
