De Commissie ondersteunt deze projecten, doch is van mening dat het belangrijk is dat de leesbaarheid, de toegankelijkheid en de doeltreffendheid van de maatregelen van de Europese Unie op het gebied van justitie worden versterkt en dat de klemtoon wordt gelegd op de projecten die voor de Europese rechtsruimte concrete toegevoegde waarde zullen opleveren.
The Commission supports these projects, but considers that it is important to make EU judicial action more comprehensible, accessible and effective and to emphasise projects that will truly add value to the European judicial area.

In antwoord op een herhaald verzoek van de Europese Raad[1] en van het Europees Parlement wordt in deze mededeling een strategie inzake e-justitie gepresenteerd die tot doel heeft de burgers meer vertrouwen te geven in de Europese rechtsruimte, die een belangrijke bron van legitimiteit is in een Unie waarin de rechtsstaat een belangrijke identiteitsverlenende waarde vormt.
In response to a request from the European Council[1] and the European Parliament, this Communication proposes an e-Justice Strategy that aims to increase citizens' confidence in the European area of justice, a major source of legitimacy in a Union where the rule of law is one of the defining values.

158. wijst erop dat de ontwikkeling van een Europese rechtsruimte die is gebaseerd op wederzijdse erkenning en juridische waarborgen en die de verschillende rechtsstelsels in de lidstaten op elkaar afstemt, met name op het gebied van strafrecht, een van de voornaamste prioriteiten van de Europese instellingen op de agenda voor justitie van de EU voor 2020 moet blijven; is van mening dat de bevordering van de effectieve en voorbeeldige toepassing van het Handvest en de secundaire EU-wetgeving inzake de grondrechten cruciaal is voor het vertrouwen van de burgers in de goede werking van de Europese rechtsruimte;

Points out that developing a European area of justice based on mutual recognition and legal safeguards, thus harmonising the different justice systems of the Member States, especially in criminal matters, should remain among the high priorities of the European institutions for the EU Justice Agenda 2020; considers that the effective application of the Charter and the secondary EU legislation on fundamental rights is crucial to the trust of citizens in the proper functioning of the European area of justice;
