(b) encourage and support the successful development and implementation of integration strategies for the relevant sectoral policies, with a view to promoting sustainable development, in particular by clearly identifying where sectoral activities and policies contribute to existing and emerging environmental problems and where changes are needed if environmental objectives are to be achieved, and furthermore encourage consideration of sector-specific targets and timetables as well as indicators at the appropriate level for monitoring the successes;

FIGHT AGAINST FRAUD - In the framework of the fight against fraud - which is one of the priorities of the Irish Presidency - the Council adopted the following conclusions on the annual report 1995 on the fight against fraud : "THE COUNCIL - having examined very carefully the 1995 annual report from the Commission on the fight against fraud, the quality of which it emphasizes; - considering that its conclusions of 11 March 1996 on the 1996 Commission work programme on the fight against fraud should be supplemented in order to take account of the comments and findings compiled by the Commission in its VIIth annual report; HAS ADOPTED THE FOLLOWING CONCLUSIONS: - In general, the Council: = notes the positive results recorded in the fight against fraud following the efforts made by both the Commission and the Member States at legislative level and at operational level on the ground; = welcomes the considerable progress made in 1995 in the legislative sphere with the adoption of Regulation (EC, Euratom) No 2988/95 of 18 December 1995 on the protection of the European Communities' financial interests and the Regulation amending Regulation (EEC, Euratom) No 1552/89 implementing Decision 88/376/EEC, Euratom on the system of the Communities' own resources, as well as the adoption on 26 July 1995 of the Convention on the Protection of the European Communities' Financial Interests; = notes the importance of implementing the political agreement reached on 3 June 1996 by rapidly adopting the Regulation concerning on-the-spot checks and inspections; = draws attention to the need to combat all forms of fraud, including those of a transnational character, and to step up cooperation between the Member States and the Commission; - More particularly, the Council: = confirms the need to continue the work undertaken to improve customs transit systems; = asks the Commission to make better use of the information communicated to it and to present developments and trends in fraud cas ...

De Raad heeft zijn goedkeuring gehecht aan een in bijlage II staande verklaring betreffende de betrouwbaarheidsverklaring (DAS). This exchange could enable work on various aspects to begin at Community level, such as: greater knowledge of Member States' systems of participation, through the exchange of information and experience, analysis of the impact that the various participatory sectors have on different education systems, study of initiatives taken in each country to encourage participation at the various levels of the education system, initiation of studies permitting an assessment of the results of such participation and the relationship between the quality of the latter and the quality of education.
