Supports the approach to single out a targeted and coherent new Industrial Policy as one of the seven flagship initiatives in Europe 2020; welcomes the explicit commitment to the consolidation of the industrial basis of the European Union; underlines the need for a sector-based industrial policy in order to give sustainable impetus to European core industries, notably by integrating the various policies in the field of innovation, research funding, demonstration projects, competition law, Single Market rules, trade policy and environmental obligations; calls on the Commission to present concrete legislative proposals to achieve the industrial shift towards a low carbon and sustainable economy;
