23. verheugt zich over het feit dat actief en gezond ouder worden deel uitmaakt van de investeringsprioriteiten van het Europees Sociaal Fonds voor de programmeringsperiode 2014-2020, zoals vermeld in Verordening (EU) nr. 1304/2013; vraagt de lidstaten de hiervoor toegewezen middelen efficiënt te gebruiken; wijst erop dat financiering voor projecten ter bevordering van actief ouder worden ook beschikbaar is in het kader van onder meer de Europese structuur- en investeringsfondsen (ESIF), Horizon 2020, het programma van de Europese Unie voor werkgelegenheid en sociale innovatie (EaSI) en het Gezondheidsprogramma; vraagt om een betere coördinatie van de programma's en diverse instrumenten die de EU beschikbaar stelt ter bevordering van actief ouder worden en solidariteit tussen de generaties, en pleit conform de prioriteiten van Horizon 2020 om de invoering van een Europese onderzoeksprioriteit onder de naam 'Applied Health and Active-Aging Sciences' (toegepaste wetenschappen inzake gezondheid en actief ouder worden);
23. Welcomes the fact that active and healthy ageing is one of the European Social Fund’s investment priorities for the 2014-2020 programming period, as stated in Regulation (EU) No 1304/2013; calls on the Member States to use the resources allocated effectively; recalls that funding for projects to promote active ageing is also available under programmes such as the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF), Horizon 2020, Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI) and the Health Programme; calls for better coordination between the programmes and various instruments made available by the EU for the promotion of active ageing and intergenerational solidarity, and calls, in line with the priorities of Horizon 2020, for the creation of a European research priority entitled ‘Applied Health and Active-Ageing Sciences’;

een sterke, stabiele en rechtvaardige economische basis, met inbegrip van economisch herstel, het bevorderen van onderwijs en scholing en het vergroten van basiskennis en toegepaste kennis in alle disciplines, van sociale wetenschappen en menswetenschappen en andere gebieden zoals biologische en medische wetenschappen en onderzoek ten bate van de veiligheid van burgers en infrastructuur, tot aan sleuteltechnologieën om de economie en de werkgelegenheid in de EU aan te zwengelen; is van mening dat het GSK zich moet richten op een alomvattende aanpak van deze maatschappelijke problemen door middel van een evenwichtige reeks instrumenten waarmee het hele spectrum van activiteiten op het gebied van onderwijs en scholing, onderzoek en innovatie wordt gedekt;
a strong, stable and equitable economic base, including economic recovery, the enhancement of education and training and of fundamental and applied knowledge in all disciplines from social sciences and humanities, through other domains such as biological and medical sciences and research for the civil security of citizens and infrastructures, to key technologies in order to boost the EU's economy and employment; Believes that the CSF should focus on addressing those societal challenges in a comprehensive way through a balanced set of instruments covering the whole spectrum of education and training, research and innovation activities;

(7) The College of Europe, providing postgraduate courses in law, economics, politics, social sciences and humanities with a European dimension, the European University Institute, contributing to the development of European cultural and scientific heritage by means of higher education and research, the European Institute of Public Administration, training national and European civil servants in the field of European integration, the Academy of European Law in Trier, providing university-level training of European law professionals and users, the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation, providing a European Masters degree and Advanced Internships and other education, training and research services in promotion of human rights and democratisation, the European Agency for Development in Special Needs Education, working to improve the quality of education for pupils with special needs and to foster sustainable European cooperation in this field, and the International Centre for European Training, providing teaching, training and research on issues of Europeanisation, globalisation, federalism, regionalism and the transformation of contemporary social structures, constitute bodies pursuing aims of general European interest.

Calls for common research initiatives which leave scope for both applied research and basic research in various areas of technology, and which take account of the fact that innovation often arises at the interface between different scientific disciplines; in the future new employment may emerge primarily in the areas of biotechnology and ICT; research in the human and social sciences continues to be needed in the European Union, with its still growing diversity of cultures;
