Underlines the importance of connecting maritime transport routes and ports with other parts of Europe and the relevance of interconnections with TEN-T corridors; calls on the participating countries to focus their efforts on implementing projects that are covered by the current TEN-T network and other interventions for its proposed extension to South-Eastern Europe/the Eastern Adriatic coast, and which are able to close the network gap existing in the Adriatic-Ionian area; invites the countries involved therefore to identify priority infrastructure projects of regional and European added value and suggests that attention be paid inter alia to:

Stresses the importance of defining, at macro-regional level, the implementation structure and coordination mechanisms in order to facilitate cooperation including joint planning, alignment of funding opportunities and a bottom-up approach; underlines the need to align the national and regional operational programmes with the goals of the strategy, including, where possible, the incorporation of EUSAIR into the programmes; considers it necessary to coordinate and harmonise initiatives, proposals and projects which concern the Adriatic-Ionian Region;

34. Stresses the importance of a greater and real interconnection between the EU 2020 strategy and the three pillars (especially the blue growth pillar) of the EUSAIR strategy based on the European Commission Action Plan; considers the Action Plan as one of the outputs of the strategy approach identifying the concrete priorities for the macro-region; points out that, on the basis of this, each action or project is selected by an extensive bottom-up consultation process involving a range of stakeholders from the Adriatic-Ionian Region representing national, regional and local authorities, social partners, but also the private sector, the social economy, academia and civil society;

More coordination is needed between the EU’s internal and external policies, such as the Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, Black Sea Synergy, the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region, the Union for the Mediterranean and the Northern Dimension.

Naar aanleiding van de Verklaring van Ancona werden diverse institutionele netwerken voor samenwerking in het leven geroepen om de cohesie in en de concurrentiekracht van de Adriatisch-Ionische regio te bevorderen: de Adriatisch-Ionische Euregio, het Forum van Adriatisch-Ionische steden, het Forum van Adriatisch-Ionische Kamers van Koophandel, Uniadrion en het Adriatisch-Ionisch initiatief.
With reference to the Ancona declaration, several institutional cooperation networks were activated to support cohesion and competitiveness in the Adriatic and Ionian region: the Adriatic and Ionian Euroregion, the Forum of Adriatic and Ionian Cities, the Forum of Adriatic and Ionian Chambers of Commerce, Uniadrion and the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative.

Het EESC zou willen beklemtonen dat samenwerking in de Adriatisch-Ionische regio weliswaar van fundamenteel belang is voor de ondersteuning van de landen van de Westelijke Balkan in de pretoetredingsfase, alsook voor het versterken van de band met de macroregio's Donaugebied en Oostzeeregio, maar dat het ook essentieel is dat de Adriatisch-Ionische ruimte wordt gezien als een functioneel onderdeel van het Middellandse Zeegebied.
The EESC would like to emphasise that while Adriatic and Ionian regional cooperation is fundamental to assisting the countries of the Western Balkans in the pre-accession process, and strengthening links with the Danube and Baltic macro-regions, it is also essential to consider the Adriatic and Ionian area as a functional area of the Mediterranean basin.

If appropriate, interregional-FLEGT partnership agreements will be promoted by the EU in current regional trade negotiations with other regions, such as Central Africa, the wider group of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries, and Mercosur as a contribution to sustainable development, in line with the overarching goal to promote sustainable development agreed by the EU and it's third country partners in the WSSD.
