Daartoe dienen het EIT en zijn KIG's ten volle gebruik te maken van bestaande initiatieven van de Unie op dit gebied, zoals de Unie-programma's voor onderzoek, opleiding, beroepsopleiding en de jeugd, waaronder het programma "Erasmus +" en de Marie Skłodowska-Curie-acties en andere mobiliteitsinitiatieven op Unieniveau.

In de mededeling van de Commissie van 29 juni 2011 getiteld "Een begroting voor Europa 2020" wordt opgeroepen tot een enkel programma op het gebied van onderwijs, opleiding, jeugd en sport, inclusief de internationale aspecten van hoger onderwijs, waarin worden verenigd: het actieprogramma op het gebeid van een leven lang leren ("Een leven lang leren"), ingevoerd bij Besluit nr. 1720/2006/EG van het Europees Parlement en de Raad , het programma Jeugd in actie ("Jeugd in actie", ingevoerd bij Besluit nr. 1719/2006/EG van het Europees Parlement en de Raad , het actieprogramma Erasmus Mundus ("Erasmus Mundus"), ingevoerd bij Besluit nr. 1298/2008/EG van het Europees Parlement en de Raad , het ALFA III- programma, ingevoerd bij Verordening nr. 1905/2006/EG van het Europees Parlement en de Raad , en de Tempus- en Edulink- programma's. Dit moet leiden tot meer efficiëntie en een sterkere strategische focus en tot een beter gebruik van de synergie tussen de verschillende aspecten van het geïntegreerde programma. The Commission's communication of 29 June 2011 entitled 'A Budget for Europe 2020' calls for a single programme in the field of education, training, youth and sport, including the international aspects of higher education, bringing together the action programme in the field of lifelong learning ('Lifelong Learning') established by Decision No 1720/2006/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council , the Youth in Action programme ('Youth in Action') established by Decision No 1719/2006/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council , the Erasmus Mundus action programme ('Erasmus Mundus') established by Decision No 1298/2008/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council , the ALFA III programme established by Regulation (EC) No 1905/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council , and the Tempus and Edulink programmes, in order to ensure greater efficiency, a stronger strategic focus and synergies to be exploited between the various aspects of the single programme.
