Welcomes and encourages the steps taken by the Egyptian Government in support of respect for the rights and freedoms of religious communities; recalls the provision included in Article 235 of the Egyptian Constitution which stipulates that the newly elected parliament, during its first legislative term, must issue a law to regulate the construction and renovation of churches in a manner that guarantees the freedom of religious practices for Christians; welcomes the fact that President al-Sisi became the first president to attend mass at a church in Cairo, on the Coptic Christmas Eve, and believes this is an important, symbolic statement in the efforts to build unity within Egyptian society;
