[25] De Koninklijke Nederlandse Academie van Wetenschappen heeft onlangs het rapport 'Publieke kennisinvesteringen en de waarde van wetenschap' gepubliceerd. Hierin wordt gesteld dat, hoewel Nederland een lange traditie heeft van het gebruiken van macro-economische modellen voor het onderzoeken van de effecten van overheidsbeleid en budgetten, deze een onvoldoende beeld geven van de langetermijnvoordelen van overheidsinvesteringen in onderzoek en innovatie.

Naast de kwestie van het uit het gezonken schip wegpompen van de stookolie bestaan er volgens het Instituut voor mariene en ecologisch onderzoek in de Egeïsche Zee, „Archipelagos”, ernstige zorgen in verband met de (chemische) stoffen in de buizenstelsels en in de algemene uitrusting van het schip.
