Considers that the redundancies in three enterprises operating in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork sector in the NUTS II region of Castilla y León (ES41) are linked to major structural changes in world trade patterns due to globalisation, referring to the fact that the volume of the EU 27 exports of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood products decreased by 10,33 % during the period 2008-2011; notes that in the same period the decline in Spain was even higher, where the number of enterprises decreased by 28,8 %;

C. overwegende dat Spanje aanvraag EGF/2013/010 ES/Castilla y Léon voor een bijdrage uit het EFG heeft ingediend naar aanleiding van 587 ontslagen werknemers, van wie 400 naar verwachting aan de maatregelen zullen deelnemen, bij drie ondernemingen die actief zijn in de houtindustrie en in de vervaardiging van artikelen van hout en kurk in de NUTS II-regio Castilla y León (ES41) in Spanje gedurende de referentieperiode van 28 december 2012 tot 28 september 2013;
C. whereas Spain submitted application EGF/2013/010 ES/Castilla y Léon for a financial contribution from the EGF, following 587 redundancies, with 400 redundant workers expected to participate in the measures, in three enterprises operating in in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork sector in the NUTS II region of Castilla y León (ES41) in Spain during the reference period from 28 December 2012 to 28 September 2013;

84. dringt er bij de Commissie op aan prioriteit toe te kennen aan initiatieven die groei en werkgelegenheid bevorderen, omdat daarmee een bijdrage kan worden geleverd aan het herstel van de Europese economie; verzoekt om meer budgettaire inspanningen ter ondersteuning van het concurrentievermogen, innovatie en kleine en middelgrote ondernemingen, aangezien het economisch potentieel van de EU hoofdzakelijk schuilt in haar 23 miljoen kmo's, die samen de kurk vormen waar onze economie op drijft; is van mening dat verhoging van de steun van de Europese Investeringsbank (EIB) voor kmo's en infrastructuur een topprioriteit moet zijn;

Urges the Commission to prioritise initiative that promote growth and jobs which are crucial for Europe’s economic recovery; Calls for enhanced budgetary efforts to support competitiveness, innovation and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), since most of the EU economic potential lies in its 23 million SMEs, which, are the backbone of our economy; considers that strengthening the European Investment Bank (EIB) support for SMEs and infrastructure should be considered a key priority;
