Op 4 en 7 juli 2016 hebben deze lidstaten na overleg met de adviesraad voor de Middellandse Zee drie gezamenlijke aanbevelingen bij de Commissie ingediend inzake teruggooiplannen voor demersale visserijen in respectievelijk de Adriatische Zee, het zuidoostelijke deel van de Middellandse Zee en het westelijke deel van de Middellandse Zee .
On 4 and 7 July 2016 those Member States have submitted three joint recommendations to the Commission concerning discard plans for demersal fisheries in the Adriatic Sea, the south-eastern Mediterranean Sea and the western Mediterranean Sea, respectively , after consultation of the Mediterranean Sea Advisory Council.

In relation to the Mediterranean Sea, in conjunction with this Directive, the necessary actions were undertaken for the Union to accede to the Protocol for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against Pollution Resulting from Exploration and Exploitation of the Continental Shelf and the Seabed and its Subsoil (17) (‘the Offshore Protocol’) to the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean (‘the Barcelona Convention’), which was concluded by Council Decision 77/585/EEC (18).

The Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against Pollution, which was subsequently renamed as the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean (the ‘Barcelona Convention’), was concluded on behalf of the European Community by means of Council Decision 77/585/EEC (2) and amendments to the Barcelona Convention were accepted by means of Council Decision 1999/802/EC (3).

Overwegende dat de Gemeenschap bij Besluit 77/585/EEG eveneens het Protocol inzake de voorkoming van verontreiniging van de Middellandse Zee door storten vanuit schepen en luchtvaartuigen heeft goedgekeurd, bij Besluit 81/420/EEG (5) het Protocol betreffende de samenwerking in noodsituaties bij de bestrijding van de verontreiniging van de Middellandse Zee door koolwaterstoffen en andere schadelijke stoffen en bij Besluit 83/101/EEG (6) het Protocol inzake de bescherming van de Middellandse Zee tegen verontreiniging vanaf het land;
Whereas the Community has also approved, by Decision 75/585/EEC, the Protocol for the prevention of pollution of the Mediterranean Sea by dumping from ships and aircraft, and, by Decision 81/420/EEC (5), the Protocol concerning cooperation in combating pollution of the Mediterranean Sea by oil and other harmful substances in cases of emergency and, by Decision 83/101/EEC (6), the Protocol concerning the protection of the Mediterranean Sea from land-based sources of pollution;
