Notes the importance of European tourism adapting to the digital market and the need to develop new digital tools and information sources for potential tourists to Europe; recommends the creation of a user-friendly, interoperable mobile application containing interactive travel maps, guides and other relevant information about EU travel destinations, which could help to promote Europe as a tourist destination and to increase the amount and quality of information available to consumers; stresses that the costs incurred in creating and maintaining this application should be kept to a minimum; acknowledges the opportunities and potential offered by the digitisation of services and products in the tourism sector; stresses the importance of creating a fully functioning internal market for these services and products, which should be inclusive of all actors, not least SMEs and consumers, and afford them legal certainty;

53. beveelt aan om, met name in het vliegverkeer, meer gebruik te maken van mobiele applicaties voor basisdiensten zoals ticketverkoop en incheckservices, en dringt er bij het bedrijfsleven op aan haast te maken met de ontwikkeling van vergelijkbare instrumenten voor de afhandeling van klachten en het beheer van vermiste bagage;
53. Commends the increased use of mobile applications for core services, especially in air transport, such as ticket purchases and check-in, and urges the industry to speed up the development of similar tools for complaint handling and missing baggage management;

A. overwegende dat de veiling van UMTS-licensies er in sommige lidstaten toe heeft geleid dat de sector in - soms acute - financiële problemen is gekomen, waardoor de uitrol van 3G-netwerken en -diensten aanzienlijke vertraging dreigt op te lopen, en dat sommige lidstaten thans unilaterale steunmaatregelen willen treffen die een geharmoniseerde ontwikkeling van de interne telecommunicatiemarkt in de weg staan, zodat een beroep op de Commissie gedaan dient te worden om de Europese Raad in het voorjaar van 2003 te benutten om een actieplan op tafel te leggen gericht op het creëren van een level playing field voor 3G-infrastructuur, -applicaties en -diensten in de EU, en dat de verlening van 3G-vergunningen in Europa heeft geleid tot concurrentieverstoringen en een versnippering van de Europese markt voor mobiele telefonie,
A. whereas auctions of UMTS licences in some Member States have led to financial problems - sometimes acute - in the sector, with a consequent risk of considerable delays to the roll-out of third-generation (3G) networks and services, and whereas some Member States now want to take unilateral aid measures, thus creating obstacles to the harmonised development of the single telecommunications market, calling on the Commission to take advantage of the Spring European Council in 2003 to submit an action plan aimed at the creation of a level playing field for 3G infrastructure, applications and services in the EU, and whereas the allocation of 3G licences in Europe has led to distortion of competition and fragmentation of the European mobile communications market,
