Om het potentieel van de nanotechnologie te realiseren dient de EU te kunnen beschikken over een populatie van interdisciplinaire wetenschappers en ingenieurs die kennis kunnen genereren en ervoor kunnen zorgen dat deze weer wordt doorgegeven aan de industrie.

Opgemerkt kan worden dat de uitvinders, de industrie en met name de kleine en middelgrote ondernemingen zich verheugen over de aanbevolen aanpak om het octrooi toegankelijker, betaalbaarder en daardoor concurrerend te maken.
